What kind of treatments does Modercromo perform?
Modercromo specializes in industrial hard chrome plating of bars and tubes, with high-performance treatments against wear, corrosion and friction.
What is the difference between aesthetic chrome plating and hard chrome plating?
Aesthetic chrome plating has mainly a decorative function. Industrial hard chrome plating, such as that performed by Modercromo, is a functional technical treatment that improves surface hardness, wear resistance, creep, and component durability.
On which materials can hard chrome plating be applied?
Mainly on carbon, alloyed and quenched and tempered steels, but also on other ferrous materials compatible with the galvanic process. If in doubt, our technical office always checks the feasibility.
What are the advantages of hard chrome plating?
Increased wear resistance, improved corrosion resistance, reduced friction, longer component life and the ability to restore dimensional dimensions.
What is Modercromo ISOCROM® treatment?
ISOCROM® is a proprietary Modercromo treatment that guarantees high corrosion resistance (up to 200h, 500h, 1000h and 64 CASS depending on the version) while maintaining the mechanical characteristics of hard chrome plating.
Does hard chrome plating protect against rust?
Yes, hard chrome plating offers good corrosion resistance, but for very aggressive environments (marine, chemical, continuous exterior) we recommend advanced treatments such as ISOCROM® and NICHELCROMO®.
What is the thickness of the chromium layer you can apply?
The thickness varies depending on the application, generally from 10 to over 70 microns. We can also achieve larger layers for dimensional restoration.
Is it possible to grind or lap after chrome plating?
Yes. After chrome plating we perform grinding, polishing and surface finishing to obtain specific dimensional tolerances and roughness required by the customer.
What dimensional tolerances can be achieved?
It depends on the part and the final machining, but we can guarantee tight tolerances thanks to post-treatment machining.
What surface finishes are available?
We can provide surfaces with different levels of roughness.
Does hard chrome plating increase the hardness of the part?
Yes. Hard chromium has a very high hardness (up to 900–1100 HV), improving resistance to scratches, wear and abrasion.
What size of bars and tubes can you handle?
Modercromo is equipped for chrome plating bars and tubes of different lengths and diameters. For particular measures, a comparison with our technical office is always recommended.
Do Modercromo treatments comply with environmental regulations?
Yes, we operate in compliance with current environmental and safety regulations, with controlled systems and processes.
How is the quality of treatment controlled?
We perform checks on layer thickness, chromium adhesion, hardness and surface finish. We provide control reports upon request.
How long does chrome plating take?
Timing depends on size, required thickness and final processing, but our production department is organized to ensure fast and constant time.
Do you also work on small batches or single pieces?
Yes, we handle both mass production and single pieces or prototypes.
Do you provide technical advice before treatment?
Certainly. Our technical team supports the customer in choosing thicknesses, finishes and treatments that are best suited to the final application.
